Local favorite for surfing, boat ramps, and warm pond swimming. A working harbor with a strong community feel.

East Hilo. Calm coves, easy snorkeling, often turtles. A great half-day with kids.

A protected lagoon a stone’s throw from Richardson. Often quieter and better for floating around.

One of only four green sand beaches on Earth. A long jeep-track hike gets you to a cinder-cone cove of olivine sand.
